Az Őrségi táj mély, ellaposodó völgyaljai, és a bőséges csapadékvizeket nehezen befogadó talajai kedvező körülményeket teremtenek a különböző megjelenési formájú lápok, láprétek kialakulásának. Az Őriszentpétert lvánccal összekötő út mellett, az Ispánki-patak keleti ágát tápláló forrás vidéken található a Bárkás-tó elnevezésű erdei pihenőhely, mely amellett, hogy az ide látogató kirándulókat kellemes környezetben kialakított esőbeállóval, padokkal és kiépített tűzrakóhellyel szolgálja, változatos, természeti értékekben gazdag élővilágnak ad otthont. Az itt található tavon aligha férne el akármilyen bárka, sőt egy kisebb csónakkal sem lehetne vízén messzire jutni. Az alig néhány tíz méter átmérőjű vízállás nevét inkább a környező fűzbokrok tavaszi barkaáradatáról kaphatta,az időkfolyamán „Barkás”-ból „Bárkássá” változva.
The landscapes of Őrség with their flattening valley floors and soils that do not readily absorb the abundant quantities of rain waters provide favourable conditions for the formation of marshes and marsh meadows appearing in various forms. Next to the road connecting Őriszentpéter and Ivánc, in the area of springs feeding the Eastern branch of the lspánki-stream we can find the woodland picnic spot called Bárkás-tó (Bárkás pond). ln addition to offering a shelter from the rain, some benches and a built firelighting spot to the visitors in a pleasant forest environment, this picnic area is also home to a varied flora and fauna rich in natural values. The little pond that you can find here would hardly be large enough tor any kind of bark, and even a boat could not take you far on the water. The name of this water body of only a few times ten metres in diameter had probably been given after the springtime pussy willow explosion of the surrounding willow shrubs (Barkás) that with the passage of time had changed to „Bárkás”, the present name of the pond.
